  • Celebrating 35 Years of the Americans with Disabilities Act

This year marks a powerful milestone in our country’s history — the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Signed into law on July 26, 1990, the ADA wasn’t just legislation. It was a turning point that declared people with disabilities have the same rights as everyone else and deserve to live, work, learn, and participate fully in our communities. Here in Texas, Governor Greg Abbott issued a proclamation recognizing the anniversary and reaffirming the state’s commitment to inclusion. He pointed to the ADA’s role in expanding access to education, employment, and transportation, and highlighted the importance of building a society where every person has the chance to thrive. His message was personal and powerful. As someone with a disability himself, he knows firsthand that challenges don’t define us, but how we overcome them does. While there’s a lot to celebrate, there’s still more to be done. Equal access and full inclusion aren’t one-time goals. They require continued action, advocacy, and awareness. We’re proud to join the rest of the state in honoring this anniversary and all the progress that’s been made thanks to advocates, allies, and leaders who have pushed for change. Because of their work, Texas continues to move toward a more accessible and inclusive future. • Honoring Caregivers Everywhere!

Caregiving is one of the most important jobs there is, and we know it’s not always easy. Whether you're providing care yourself or managing a caregiver for a loved one, your dedication makes a difference every single day. There are two main types of caregivers: Professional caregivers  are trained individuals who provide care as part of their job. This includes home health aides, nurses, therapists, direct support professionals, and hospice workers. They assist with medical needs, help with daily activities, and ensure the overall well-being of those in their care. Family caregivers  are those who step into the role without formal training or compensation—often balancing caregiving with work, parenting, or other responsibilities. They provide emotional and physical support to loved ones, helping with tasks such as mobility, meal preparation, medication management, and household responsibilities. On this National Caregivers Day, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the work you do. Whether you're a professional caregiver or a family member stepping up to support someone you love, your role is invaluable. You help individuals remain in their homes, ease the burden on healthcare systems, and provide much-needed stability and care. Thank you for everything you do—we’re honored to support you in this journey.

  • Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Through Service and Empathy

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we take a moment to reflect on the enduring impact of Dr. King’s work and words. His message of equality, service, and compassion continues to inspire and guide us in all aspects of our lives. At In-Home Attendant Services, we are deeply moved by his call to action and are committed to honoring his legacy by serving our clients with the same empathy, dedication, and respect that he advocated for. Dr. King once asked, "What are you doing for others?" This powerful question calls us to consider how we can contribute to the well-being of those around us. It challenges us to look beyond ourselves and consider how we can make a positive impact in the lives of others, especially those who are vulnerable or in need. As we reflect on this today, we are reminded of how important it is to serve with purpose and to lead with empathy in every interaction we have. Let's celebrate the power of service and the impact we can all have in the lives of others. Let us continue to be inspired by Dr. King’s vision and work together to create a world that reflects the best of what we can achieve when we serve others with love and respect.

  • Office Updates and Tips for Staying Safe

As a rare winter storm approaches the Houston area, we want to provide you with essential updates and helpful tips to navigate the coming days. This weather event, which may bring snow and sleet, could make travel difficult and impact daily routines. Here’s what you need to know: Office Closure Updates To prioritize the safety of our staff and clients: Tuesday : Our office will be closed, with some team members working remotely to assist you as needed. Wednesday : While the situation is still uncertain, we anticipate continuing remote operations. We will confirm this based on weather conditions and provide updates accordingly. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to adapt to these unusual circumstances. Tips for Preparing for Winter Weather Winter storms are uncommon in Texas, so it’s crucial to take steps to stay safe and prepared. Here are some recommendations to help you weather the storm: Protect Your Home: Pipes:  Insulate exposed pipes or let faucets drip to prevent freezing. Heating:  Ensure your heating system is functioning and have extra blankets on hand. Windows and Doors:  Use weather stripping or towels to block drafts and retain heat. Stay Safe on the Roads: Avoid driving unless absolutely necessary. Icy roads can be treacherous, especially for those unfamiliar with winter driving. If you must travel, reduce your speed, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and pack an emergency kit with blankets, water, and snacks. Prepare for Power Outages: Charge all devices in advance and have extra batteries for flashlights. Keep a supply of non-perishable food and bottled water in case of prolonged outages. Have a backup heat source, like a portable heater, but ensure proper ventilation to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
